Now that July is behind us, I'm going to sum up my victories, my failures, new methods and networks I've tried, and new goals for August.
Making money online is time consuming, that's what I've learned this month. There's a lot of trial and error. Had I known what I know now six months ago, I would have easily been seeing $500-$1000 months instead of the $80 July I just had. The good news is my hard work has been rewarded with my first google adsense payout (yay!). The bad news is I'm sort of stuck right now. I've poured all this time into this blog that has an extremely low paying CPC. Sure, it's only one site, but all these "what ifs" are killing me. The solution: using what I know, start some new sites. I'm already on my way with this, but before I get into that I want to give you the July 2009 roundup.
Goal 1: Average 500 unique visitors a day. I didn't quite meet this goal. I instead averaged 486 a day, with my high being in the high 600s and my low in the low 300s. That's a big gap, and towards the end of the month the highs were more consistent than the lows. Not a total failure, but I didn't hit my goal either.
Goal 2: Make between $25-$30 a month. This was a successful goal that I was able to meet. I ended up with $78.60 for the month, and I expect that August will produce somewhere around $110 (though my goal will be for $160 - I'll talk about that later). I average around $0.15 a click and I'm not smartpriced. This should give you an idea of what I would be making had I chosen a keyword with a high CPC.
Adsense Tip: Keep track of your adsense stats. My CTR for one of my pages that gets very little traffic is around 20% while my CTR for a page of mine that gets about 40% of my entire traffic is around 2-3%. On the page I have a CTR of 2-3%, I made a little over half of the cash I made from the one that's at 20%, which had not even half of the unique visitors of the one getting all the traffic. I've started getting backlinks for the high CTR page and I've seen a dramatic improvement in my adsense clicks. Just a few days ago my adsense revenue per day peaked.
Goal 3: Make 2 new sites. FAILURE. I made two new sites but didn't do anything with them. They each have only one post and no articles or backlinks. I did, however, right a few hubpages and made some extra...pennies.
New methods I've been using:
Infolinks vs. Kontera - Mid July I started using Kontera and made an average of $0.40 a day. I figured "okay, it can't hurt..." and then I read about infolinks somewhere. I decided to give it a go, removed Kontera from my site and added infolinks. WOW! I make on average $2 a day from infolinks. Seriously. Thumbs way down, Kontera. I'll write a more thorough review of these two on a later date, but if you want to try PPC go with Kontera.
TKA - (the Keyword Academy) Google it, go to it, try it out. I'll do a review of this on a later date, as well, but for now just trust me. It's a $1 commitment and if you're not willing to spend that, find yourself a different business.
Spending Money Tip: I acutually came into this whole making money online business with the idea that I wouldn't spend money to make money. I realize now how silly it was. Sure, this attitude definitely saved me from ipulse buying e-books that promise you the world, but it also put me off to a very slow start. In some ways this was good, in some ways not so much. What ended up happening was I realized at some point I needed to join some networks, so I did my research, asked some questions and made EDUCATED decisions. I don't regret my decisions, as all of the networks I'm now a part of have payed off big time.
These are connect content, backlink solutions, and TKA.
When I make more money, I plan to try out UAW.
Something new I'm trying:
Uglier than Ugly Sites: What the hell do I mean by this? I started getting some followers over the past few months for my main site that I'm making money off of. At first it was fine. One or two didn't bother me. Five or ten didn't bother me. But now that number is more like 20 and is growing. I don't want followers. I don't want people reading my posts. What I realized was at the top of every post I wrote I had a pretty photo. Colorful and inviting, I like these photos because I get some small traffic from google images. What I've just done today is moved the photos from the pages I make the most money from to underneath the fold. That means that when someone clicks on a link and ends up on my site, they do not see the image until they scroll down the page. I figure that this might encourage more people to click on adsense ads. I'll let you know how it works out as I'll be monitering it very closely.
Now for my August goals. As you might remember if you've read my previous posts, I was going to do a doubling rule. Every month my goal would be to double my success of the last month. The problem with this is that the more successful I am in one month, the harder it's going to be for me to treach that goal the next month. I'm going to try to somewhat stick to the doubling rule. My site isn't exactly getting a ton of traffic that it would be too difficult to double, but it definitely won't be easy.
So here are the numbers:
Goal 1 - Average 900 unique visitors a month.
Goal 2- Make $160 this month from Adsense.
Goal 3- Make 4 new sites! So far I'm at 1 and I've done the research for a second one. Making sites is so boring and tedious, especially in the beginning but you've just got to buckle down and do it. I'm going to make a new site checklist so I don't skip anything. I'll post my checklist in a later post so you can benefit from my madness.
That's all for now. More on how I make money online to come.
Cheers!

Guide to Keyword Research
I decided I had to dedicate a whole post to keyword research, and why it's the most important thing you can do for yourself. This is something I wish I had known when I began starting blogs and using adsense, so don't take this advice lightly.
Things that are obvious when you begin making money online: (at least they were to me)
Things you might not know about keyword research: (things I didn't know but wish I had)
So now that I've told you the main things I'm looking for in a keyword, I should probably tell you how I go about doing this.
The google keyword tool is key. Become familiar with it, it's your best friend, your brother from another mother, your lover...you get the point. Basically what you want to do is as follows. Go to the google keyword tool. Type in your keyword, make sure "use synonyms" is checked and click "get keyword ideas". Now a chart will appear. The important columns are keywords, estimated average CPC, and global monthly search volume. If you don't see estimated average CPC, don't worry, this is expected. Go to the "choose columns to display" and click on the drop down menu and click on "show estimate average CPC". Now you should see it. While your at the drop down menu, why don't you hide the advertiser competition as well as the local monthly search volume. Now you want to go to "match type" drop down menu that will be on your right next to the "global monthly search volume". It will be on "broad" change it to "exact". This will give you the stats for people searching for the exact keywords and it's more accurate. This should set you up well to start doing keyword research. For a more detailed approach, checkout the keyword academy. It will cost you $1 for your first month and the information you will get is worth well over what you are going to pay.
Good luck with your keyword research and come back soon for more making money online for beginners!
Things that are obvious when you begin making money online: (at least they were to me)
- You want a keyword that gets a lot of traffic. This is self explanatory. The more people who search for your keyword, the more traffic you will ultimately get and the more adsense clicks you will get. If your keyword only gets 1000 searches a month, first of all you'll only get a fraction of that traffic, and only a fraction of the traffic you get will click on ads. Use the google keyword tool to find out how much traffic a keyword gets.
- You want a keyword that has minimum competition. If you know anything about making money with niche sites and adsense, you should already know this. It's not hard to figure out how much competition there is out there. There are two things I do to determine competition. First I google search my keyword and I look at how many results come up. Second I check the first 4 results on the google SERPs and check their PR. I want all of the pages to have a PR of 3 and lower. If over 2 of them have a PR4 or higher, I scratch the keyword and go back to my drawing board.
Things you might not know about keyword research: (things I didn't know but wish I had)
- Keyword CPC. When I started out, I didn't know that google had different CPC for different keywords. There is a huge range out there - from $0.05 to $50. You usually make half of the CPC at most. My first successful blog that I started was about six months ago now, and when I started it I didn't know about CPC or how to find it out. I chose a keyword that gets a lot of traffic, and is fairly competitive but has a lot of long tail keywords that fall into the same niche that get good traffic, as well. I worked hard on getting my site up in the SERPS and was pretty successful at doing so. I get good traffic and am fairly pleased with how I've done. I average between 15-25 Adsense clicks a day. You might be thinking that that's great considering I only put in about three real months of work into it, spent in total under $100 on it, and I didn't really know what I was doing. The problem: my keyword has an extremely low CPC. The highest CPC for a keyword that falls into my niche is under $2.00. The average is probably around $0.50. For the 15-25 clicks I get a day, I make an average of $3.50. That's about $100 a month. Sure, it'll keep growing and doing better, and I'm not complaining. I learned a lot from this blog and will keep pushing it with more and better keywords now that I know how to do keyword research properly. But I can't help thinking, if I had known before what I know now I wouldn't have chosen this niche. If I was even making $1 per click, (which is still on the low side) I would have a very successful little blog.
- If you rank for one keyword, it will be easier to rank for the others in the SERPs. Once you are on top of the SERPs for a keyword, the google bot will crawl your page more often and give more juice to your entire site. This makes it easier to get new pages indexed right away (for my most successful blog my new pages are usually indexed within the hour that I publish them). It will give new keywords more juice.
So now that I've told you the main things I'm looking for in a keyword, I should probably tell you how I go about doing this.
The google keyword tool is key. Become familiar with it, it's your best friend, your brother from another mother, your lover...you get the point. Basically what you want to do is as follows. Adsense and Internet: Mid July Report
For now I'll be reporting on how this whole adsense thing is going for me twice a month. Sometimes it gets slow, sometimes not so much, but I figure that saving it for twice a month will give me a lot of information to in turn give to you.
Let's just take a moment to remember my goals from June. If I recall correctly, I wanted 500 unique visitors a day and between $25 to $30 a month from my adsense earnings. I also wanted to create two new sites.
Now let's review where I am on this lovely summer day of July 20th.
Goal 1: To get 500 unique visitors a day.
Results so far: So far I haven't reached this goal. I've peaked at 633 in a day and my lowest has been 336. I'd say my average on a day is probably 410 (that's what I get most days). If I average all the days so far in July I have an average of 447 for the first 19 days of July. This isn't terrible but it isn't great either and I was hoping on averaging 500 by this time. Weekend are when I see the amount go lower (into the 300s) and weekdays are when I see it level out around 410 give or take. Let's hope for the best in the remaining days of the month.
Goal 2: To make at least between $25-$30 in the month.
Results so far: I've exceeded my adsense expectations already and expect to double what I've expected from adsense earnings this month. So far I have made $43 and expect between $50 and $60 by the end of the month. While this isn't a lot of extra money each month, a full year of making this much off of adsense will pay my rent for a month. I'll take it! Not to mention that if I continue to double this every month (which won't be easy but it's my goal) I'll be making bank in no time. On a daily basis I average anywhere between $0.50 and $3.50 a day. By keeping track of my adsense earnings on adsense and google analytics I've been able to see which pages on my sites have ads with a higher CPC. This is helpful because I now know which pages I should be targeting. For example, I have one keyword that I've been targeting since May. This keyword is pretty competitive, recieves a mediocre amount of traffic, but has a very low CPC. I manage to rank number 4 on google search for this keyword now (I peaked at 3) but I make on average $0.10 from a click. Some days I get 15 clicks, and imagine if I had done proper keyword research from the begining. I could be making a lot more than I am. I guess that's why it's called "learning" before "succeeding". But mind you, I can't stress this enough: KEYWORD RESEARCH IS SO IMPORTANT. When I started I didn't know about CPC, I only new about keyword competition, traffic, and SEO. It's really too bad but too late to change it. It is what it is.
Goal 3: Make two new sites.
Results so far: I've made two new sites, yes. One of them is a site that gets little traffic through most of the year but at one point in the year it is consistently one of the top 100 google search terms searched for a few days. This means I won't get much action except for a few days where I'll get a ton of action. It's not very competitive so I'm ranking pretty well on google for it considering it's a baby blog. I've made a second site which I've put on hold for now and I'll tell you why. Hubpages. Hubpages basically a site that allows you to post articles and create "hubs" which are like mini sites. You can put google adsense on and a number of affiliates, and you get 60% of the impressions that are made. You may wonder why you would want only 60% of the impressions when you can start your own site and make 100%. Well, with hubpages you'll get a lot more traffic with a lot less work than it's possible to get starting up a new site. I've been concentrating on hubpages and while I'm not exactly overflowing with cash, I've been making a few cents each day. I think the more I put into it the more I will see coming back. If I do good keyword research and use good SEO I could be making real money from it, as a lot of people are. We'll see how that goes. I want to make at least anoth 20 hubs by the end of the month. Seriously check out hubpages, it's easy to use and doesn't take too much time.
I'll be with you again to discuss how July turned out and my goals for August. I hope you're all doing well and making boat loads of cash! Be patient with google adsense and starting off in making money online. It's a real job but the work you put in turns into gold and I've already seen that happening.

Adsense, Adsense, Adsense
Well I've taken a mighty long break from posting at all about my progress.
Let's start with March 2009 and I'll give a quick recap on all that's been going on in my quest to make a living off adsense.
March 2009 - my hard drive crashed. This was terrible for a number of reasons - I don't back up (well, now I do) and because I didn't have any cash to buy a new one. It also put a huge stumbling block in my path to internet marketing.
Mid April 2009 - I got a new hard drive and was back on my way. I though seriously about adsense, blogging, what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I decided to get serious. Yes, it's possible to get your blog to the top of the SERPs using solely free methods, but I'm an instant gratification kind of guy and I wanted results. So I did some research and noticed that backlink solutions was offering an associates account for $27. I decided to try it out. I believe you get your money back after a month if you're not satisfied. But I WAS satisfied. I noticed results almost immediately and in a later post I'll review backlink solutions associate account and full account, which I now have.
I decided to concentrate on one site and follow it closely and see what worked and what didn't, instead of trying the same thing on all of my sites and having them all fail. I chose a site in a fairly competitive niche, but nothing too bad, that was getting at peak around 30 unique hits a day, with an average of probably 15 or so. I started writing articles, using hubpages, using my backlink solutions associate account and so on. I started writing posts about once a week to make it seem more organic to goole. Slowly but surely the traffic began to trickle in. I didn't want to dominate for just one keyword, I wanted the whole niche.
May 2009 - Things were going good. I was climbing up the SERPs for some of my less competitive keywords. I was ranking on page 1 of google for some of them even! And I was ranking on pages 3, 4 and 5 for some of my competitive keywords that I wasn't even targeting.
By the end of May I was getting on average about 100 unique hits a day. I was satisfied with this and decided that my goal from now on would be "doubling".
What is "doubling"? I decided that I'm starting off small and therefore my expectations should be small. I shouldn't be expecting to make thousands off of google adsense within my first month. That's just unreasonable. So I made a rule of doubling, which basically meant that my goal each month would be to double my results from the previous month. At first I expect this will be easy and become harder as the numbers get bigger.
So for May 2009 I made about $5 off of Adsense and I had on average 100 unique visitors. Goal for June - to make $10 off of Adsense and have at least 200 unique visitors per day.
June 2009 - I joined the keyword academy which is only $1 for the first month. I learned a lot. I learned a better way to search for niches and that was really the gold in the keyword academy. (I'll review keyword academy in a later post). I started writing more articles and making more hubpages. I was on a roll. I continue the methods I've been using. I get sort of lazy towards the middle of the month, probably because I've already reached my goal and am afraid of going way over and having a much higher goal for July. But as it stands, I've made $15 off of google adsense this month and have been averaging about 250 unique visitors a day, with my peak at 365.
So not it's June 29th, 2009. I'm happy with my progress. I've started one new blog this month and have done research and have a niche or two that I'm going to stab into in the coming month. I've learned a lot and my goal for July 2009 will be:
-to average 500 unique visitors a day (yikes!)
-to earn somewhere between $25 and $30 using google adsense.
-to start 2 new sites that I have done a lot of keyword research on
-to not get lazy!!!!
-to do some research and start using affiliate marketing tools - slow at first
I think I have my work cut out for me. At the rate I'm going I should be able to make $1600 a month by February 2010. That's in half of a year. That's a huge goal to reach, but I think I can do it.
Good luck to everyone and come back soon fto join me on my journey to make money online.
Signing off,

Adsense, finally
Well I'm finally ready to make real post. I will update you on how my blogs are doing first, and what I've learned from how they are doing.
My blogs have been left virtually untouched for a week or so now. The ANTM blog is getting less adsense clicks than it did in January (a lot less) and it turns out it's getting the same amount of traffic. What I've learned from traffic patterns so far is that weekends produce far less traffic, as do American holidays. For example, today is presidents day and my ANTM website is down to half of the weekday clicks I normally get. Maybe I'll see a rise in traffic as the new season approaches.
One of my un-indexed websites has gotten itself indexed...and then un-indexed...and then indexed...and then un-indexed...and now it's indexed again and it looks like it's for real this time. Another one of my blogs has been getting a ton (well, not a ton exactly) but compared to what it was before, it's getting a lot of google traffic. A lot of people are finding it through google images, I'm not sure why, but it's showing up on google's first page for a few longer keywords I was targeting (yay!). What I've learned from these two is that once you plant the seed you have to be patient, keep watering, and your plant will grow. The better you take care of it, the bigger it will get.
Now on to adsense. I don't remember originally what I was going to say about adsense (sorry - use it or lose it) but maybe it was one of these following things.
When choosing a niche, yes, it is important to pick something that people are interested in. But also keep in mind that you need to choose something that people might click ads for. Just something to think about.
Also, keep track of your adsense earnings. Especially when you're just starting out, I suggest you check them daily. You will start to see trends and it will help you think of ways to improve your site/adsense earnings.
I know adsense is ugly, but don't hide it on your page. Put it right on top where everyone can see it. You want them to click away from your page!
Sorry I don't have much more to report. I've been busy but I'm seriously dedicating tomorrow to getting serious backlinks. Hopefully something will happen and I'll have more to report.
For the time being, Grizzly has made a new site - adsense for beginners. Check it out. Grizzly is really helpful in everything he writes and I'm sure his new site is no exception.
UPDATE: I just realized what was happening with one of my new blogs, the one that I was getting all this google image traffic from. It's pretty cool actually. With that blog I've been targeting about 6 different keywords. The main one I've been targeting, I don't rank for yet. However, if you google the main keyword I'm targeting, and then click on images, an image from my blog is appearing as the 3rd image. I got about 25 unique hits today from that one, and around the same yesterday, which is a huge jump from the 5 I was getting over the weekend. Especially since I didn't do anything. So anway, a new idea - images.

Money Making Update
Well, I've been busy because I just moved, so I've been falling behind on my posts and haven't been working as hard on making money online. So I thought I would update you so you can see what happens when you just leave things the way they are and put in very little effort.
Let's start with my ANTM blog. It has fallen on the SERPS (somewhere around 110) but has otherwise been getting more traffic than usual (not by a lot though). I did one quick post last week about a contestant on the upcoming season which has gotten decent traffic. For the keyword (which is her name) I rank between 1-5 on the SERPS and to my surprise, people have actually been searching for her. Yay!
Adsense earnings have remained the same, I think I'm going to try to sell some products on the site and see how I do with that. Hopefully that will amount to something.
As far as the two other blogs I started recently goes, before last week one had just gotten indexed (lets call it blog A) and the other hadn't (Blog B). Sometime last week, blog A started getting google traffic (the kind we want), which means I'm off to a good start. It's averaging about 15 unique hits a day, which is nothing and I'm not even going to think about monetizing it until I get more backlinks up. Blog B finally got indexed, but hasn't really seen much of any traffic.
So I guess what I learned from last week is that initially is when you have to put the most work in. After that, things start to work out for themselves (of course, the more work you put in, the better the results).
In other news, I kept reading on Grizzly's making money blog about making friends and having a little online community to trade backlinks, provide support, etc. I've come to realize the importance of this, and the best way to go about doing it is to comment on people's blogs. You should check out Lucky-King's Achieving Your Goals with Planning and Persistance. You'll find some good and honest information on there which should help you in managing your time and staying motivated.
I promise 8 million to write an actual post in the next few days of things I'm actually trying out.
And I promise to edit my posts so they're easier to read.
Thanks for visiting my how to make money online for beginners blog.

Get Your Blog Up on The Serps
Sorry I've been slacking on my posts and all. I've been busy and I want to update you. And soon I'll have a post on Adsense like I promised. For now though I want to talk about the progress of my ANTM blog. In January the google search volume for keyword "America's Next Top Model" got over a million queries. If you search google for "America's Next Top Model" there are over 10 million sites.
I began working on my site not even a month ago. I haven't invested as much time into it as I wanted to. I'm not making a lot of money from it (around 30 adsense dollars from the past month). I'm not getting a ton of traffic (about 70-100 unique hits a day - most from google traffic).
But the big news is I just checked - if you search keyword "America's Next Top Model" my site is #72. That's right. Out of 10 million sites, mine is 72. And I'll tell you the truth - it's poorly written, ugly as hell and it exists for the soul purpose of making money.
I'm young. I don't know anything about the internet. I'm in complete shock that this crappy site I made is #72 out of 10 million. Holy cow.
Now here's an experiment I'm going to perform. Everyday for the next 30 days I'm going to get one backlink for the site and write one article for it on goarticles. (at least I'll try to!). At the end of 30 days I want to see if traffic has imporved, if adsense earnings have improved, and where it ranks in the SERPS.
In other news, I decided I hat ezine articles and won't use it anymore. I also started another new blog which has yet to be indexed (its only been a few hours!)
I think I'm getting the hang of this and starting to realize how much work is going to go into it. It's going to take probably about a year to be able to sit back and just let the dough roll in, so until then I'll have to devote some time to it. Luckily enough I'm young enough that my parents health insurance still covers me and my only responsibility is paying my rent and my taxes.
I strongly recommend you check out Grizzly's Make Money Online which is responsible for any success I've had. His site has basically been my bible for the past few weeks and will continue to be.
Wow, can you believe it? 72 out of 10 million. I just had to post it.

Backlinks - howt to get relevant backlinks
I know I said I was going to talk about adsense next, but before I go into that I want to share some reliable ways of getting relevant backlinks.
Backlinks are the most important thing. They get your website indexed and they help it move up on the SERPS (search engine result page). Just getting backlinks from other sites/blogs isn't good enough. They have to be the right kind of links, and I'll explain to you what separates the right kind from the wrong kind.
Here is an ideal backlink - a link to your site from another relevant site with a high PR using a keyword anchor. For example, if I needed a backlink for my ANTM site, I would want one coming from another site that had to do with ANTM (or reality TV or fashion or something relevant) and I would want the anchor keyword to be America's Next Top Model. If the link to your page just says "click here" or has the full url, it's not as valuable a backlink. And if it comes from a page that isn't relevant, say a page about fishing, Google will know and it won't move up in the serps as quickly. PR isn't as important as the link coming from a relevant blog, but will still help it move up in the serps quicker.
So how do you get backlinks?
There are a few ways which have proven to be very valuable. First of all, you can always ask for a backlink. If there's a site that you want a backlink from, email them and ask. You could always offer to pay, sometimes they'll say yes and other times they'll say no.
There are a lot of programs that are sort of newtworks for backlinks. The one I've been using, which is a new network and extremely cheap compared to the other ones out there is called ConnectContent. It is a network based on a point system. You get one positive point every time you link to someone else in the network (more if you have a high PR) and you a negative point everytime someone links to you. You're always supposed to be in the positive. You can search for unused anchor links (links that other people need) by searching through a database which is organized by category, by least used, etc. And then you report when you have used someone elses link. In my opinion, its a really great system. The person who owns it, RT, is very helpful and responsive if you have questions. It's easy to use and it really does work. I highly recommend ConnectContent.
Also by mosting articles that contain your backlink to article directories, you can get backlinks this way. You can buy

Adsense, etc.
Sorry for the delay, I've been on a bit of a hiatus and not dedicating my time to my goal of making a living online. But I'm back and ready to update you, as well as talk a little but about adsense.
So since I've written last I haven't really touched my America's Next Top Model blog. I've been averaging around 70 unique visitors to my blog a day which really isn't very much, but isn't very little either. As far as my adsense earnings go I haven't made all too much. Generally I've been told to expect somewhere between 5 - 10% of uniques visitors to be clicking on adsense ads. I have about a click a week! That's nothing and at first it depressed me. I did everything right, I got traffic, I got backlinks, my page is optimized well but no one is clicking on any of google's adsense ads! Why not? Over half of the traffic I'm getting is organic (from search engines).
Well, the conclusion I've come to is that the adsense ads shown on the page all have to do with modeling. How to be a model, etc. The majority of the people visiting my page just want information about America's Next Top Model, which is why they aren't clicking on my ads even though ther are relevent! So what I've decided is that I'll keep adsense on my ANTM page until I have another page up with good organic traffic that I want to put adsense on. Then I'm going to take adsense down off of my ANTM page and I'll explain why in a few moments. But what I am going to do is start putting up some affiliate links and trying to sell a few things on the site. What kind of things you may ask.
Well the way I look at it is this : the people visiting the site are probably mostly young women, interested in things like beauty and fashion. So I'll sell things related to beauty and fashion.
In the meantime, I've started a new blog. I won't tell you my niche because I think it will potentially do really well in terms of utilizing adsense, but I put it up about a week ago and havent had much luck with it yet. It hasn't been indexed by google and I can't figure out why so it's driving me crazy! I have a few original articles on it, I've submitted original articles containing my link to article directories, and I've posted on yahoo answers a couple of times and still nothing. I guess I'm just going to have to work a little harder. It all happened so quickly with my ANTM blog so I guess I wasn't prepared for more of a fight. Over the next few weeks I want to get up at least 20 new blogs. Yes, 20. That might sound ambitious and it is, but I think that I need to commit to this if I'm going to start seeing some real results.
Back to my ANTM blog - good news is it's got a goole ranking. Sure it's a PR0, but at least it's ranked by google now. And it's useful to have blogs that are ranked even if they're not making a lot of money or getting a lot of traffic.
I'm building a farm - and what I mean by farm is that I will have blogs that make money and blogs that don't, and the blogs that don't are useful because I can use them to add backlinks to my other blogs to get them indexed and ranked faster.
Right now this blog that I'm writing on right now is indexed on google, and it's frustrating because I've done a lot more to get my new blog indexed with no success. I guess it hasn't even been a week so I have to be patient about getting my blog indexed by google. It doesn't happen overnight is the lesson I've learned, and when it does happen overnight you shouldn't start to expect it.
Well I thought I was going to be talking about google adsense, but instead I've just been updating you. I think I'll delve into google adsense tomorrow, or later on. For now I'm going to devote some time to getting that new blog indexed!
So adsense tomorrow - here at how to make money for beginners.

Make Money Online For Beginners RECAP
This is partly for you and partly for me, but let's do a quick recap of what I've done so far. Every week or 2 I'll do a recap so you can see where you are in relationship to me, if you've tried anything new, or if you're missing something or some way to make money online or SEO (search engine optimization).
1. Choose a niche (topic)
2. Figure out keywords for your niche - write these down. You should have long trail keywords, too. Long trail keywords are, for example if your niche is golf balls. It's going to be hard to rate on google page 1 for gold balls, so start with a long trail. How about blue golf balls. "blue gold balls" is your long trail. But don't go too far. If your long trail is "blue golfballs that double as ping pong balls" no one is going to search for that. You might rank well, but it won't matter.
3. Create a blog around your niche including a few original articles loaded with your keywords (but not too loaded) find the balance.
4. Get your website/blog indexed by google and get keyword anchors and backlinks
A. get indexed
a- yahoo answers
B. keyword anchors
b- goarticles
c- ezinearticles
d-hubpages
e- squidoo
f- any others - I listed a few others in the posts
C. Backlinks
g- connectcontent
(this is just a skeleton of what I have done - these are the main points. No two systems will be identical but this is what has been working best for me)
5. Keep track of your stats on statcounter.
6. Sign up for google adsense and affiliate sites such as clickbank, amazon associates, etc (those are the only 2 I've used so far. Next on my list is the ebay one).
7. Wait until you have a steady flow of *ORGANIC* traffic, meaning search engine traffic. I waited until I had 100 unique visitors, you should probably wait a little longer though. Then start to monetize your site.
Tip - the way I see it, the longer you wait to monetize, the better in the long run because google ranks sites that are not monetized higher than sites that are. I just wanted to go with it so I did, but I would suggest you wait a little longer than I have.
That's about it. Next time on Make Money Online for Beginners I will be talking about google adsense.

Connectcontent review | hubpages review | Make Money Online Update
Here's an overdue update of how things are going with my one and only precious blog.
I've been distracted over our first black president but I'm back.
I want to talk a little bit about my blog, how it's doing and the ups and downs. And I want to talk about what's going on behind the scenes. On January 19th, maybe because it was a holiday but I'm not sure, I had almost no unique visitors to my blog. This got me really nervous, so I went and I answered a bunch of questions on yahoo answers. I posted articles on goarticle and ezine. I also joined a hub network called hubpages (google it, I'm not providing the link). I used connectcontent. I went back and edited some of my posts for better search engive optimization (SEO). I will got through this step by step and show you the results after.
Connectcontent
I think I've mentioned this program already but I urge you to go out an purchase a membership. It's great for beginners because it is easy to use and inexpensive compared to the other programs out there. The man behind it, RT, is very helpful and responds to you very quickly. I'm very satisfied. Within 12 hours of purchasing a membership I had received 6 backlinks. Yahoo Answers
Pretty simple. Answer some questions with a unique 100 word or so paragraph. Include a link to your blog. I get tons of traffic from yahoo answers. Simple really - someone googles a question like "when is the next season of ANTM on" the first thing that pops up on google page one is the yahoo answers page. TONS of TRAFFIC. I'm serious. This is a money maker. Warning to you though - this is what happened to me when I started using yahoo answers the first time (I was pretty stupid, don't be as stupid as me). I found that there were a dozen questions asking the same exact thing. So I copied and pasted the same answer a dozen times. My account was suspened and then banned. I had to open a new account. My advice is that if you're serious about making money online, take the extra 2 minutes and write an original answer.
Goarticles and Ezine articles
You know what these are. Go post your articles on them. Make sure they're original, use the same keywords, and have a keyword anchor link to your blog. Piece of cake. Making money online is easy, huh? Not quite.
Hubpages Review
Great website which allows you to create a hub. A hub is a webpage. You more or less write articles (or rewrite your original articles) choose a topic or a niche. What makes this site unique is that you can monetize your hub. You can put adsense on there and certain afiliate sites. So while you're waiting for your blog to be indexed and get some decent traffic flowing, you can test out the water and use hubpages to see what works and what doesn't.
Also, as a sidenote I downloaded the SEO plugin for firefox (for those of you who use firefox). It gives you easy access to information such as pagerank, keyword density, and how many backlinks a webpage has. Basically, it allows you to gage your competition for a keyword/niche.
Another side note, as soon as I start up a few more blogs, I'm going to try out linkvana which is a bit more expensive which is why I'm waiting. I have to make sure it's worth it, and it will only be worth it if it can pay for itself. And it will only be able to pay for itself if I gain a little more experience and confidence in this.
Now back to my blog. So After I did all these things - hubpages, connectcontect, articles, etc. My unique visitors started returning.
To be specific - monday I had 22
Tuesday I had 64
Wednesday it dropped back down to 56
And today .... 100! On the dot and today isn't even over yet!
I finally monetized my site today. I put on google adsense which may not have been the brightest idea but I'm ambitious and willing to take a risk. Plus, since it's my only blog I have adsense on, I'm not at risk for damaging my earnings from other sites.
I'll let you know how week one goes with the monetized site.
Next post I will talk a little more about adsense, what it is, what I have learned so far, how to use it, how not to use it, how to make money with adsense, and the dangers in using it.
Please feel free to ask questions, I'm always afraid I'm not explaining myself well. Everyday I'm learning a lot about this whole making money blogging thing and sometimes I forget to talk about basics, so let me know if you have any questions about what I'm talking about. I'll get back to you as soon as I can, and if I'm not sure of the answer I'll refer you to an expert in making money online.
The reason why I think I'm a valuable resource to you is because I am you! Only a few steps ahead of you. I think like you, I talk like you.
UPDATE: remember how I was talking about getting indexed quickly by using yahoo answers. Well here's what I meant : This site, about 20 minutes ago was not indexed. If you searched for it in google with the URL search results would return nothing. This site didn't exist. I just answered a few questions on yahoo answers, and guess what - 20 minutes later (that's all it took) my site is now indexed.
Halleluyah, praise the lord.
Thanks for visiting Make money online for beginners.
I know I said I wouldn't sell thing here, but a girls got to eat and I don't feel bad putting an affiliate like in here or there. Oh yeah, once you join connectcontent, you can become an affiliate member and when someone clicks on the link you provide, you make commission. Update|Making Money By Blogging|yahoo answers
I just wanted to update you on how it's going with my blog. Yesterday I had 61 unique visitors, which was more than double what I had the day before. Today, so far, I've had 52. The day isn't over yet but I'm kind of down since this is the first day it has decreased. Hopefully the next few hours will bring lots of visitors.
I'm going to talk about how to get your blog/website indexed almost immediately by google.
Two words: Yahoo Answers.
Yahoo answers PR (page rank) is an 8, which means that Google crawls it constantly. Look for a question on yahoo answers and answer it. Include your link to your blog or website. This well get it indexed fast, but better than that, it will get it a ton of traffic. When you google a question, chance are someone has asked that question on yahoo answers, and one of the first items listed on google will be the yahoo answers page.
Also, submit articles to sites such as squidoo, netscape (propeller), goarticles, and ezine articles. Rewrite them but use the same keywords. Create a keyword anchor link in the article. This will get you traffic and you will move up on google.
Now I want to talk a little about connectcontent, the backlink program I just starting using yesterday. It is amazing. It does what other backlink networks do for a fraction of the cost. I strongly urge you to invest in this.
In other news, my blog is starting to show up for a few keywords. Sure, the keywords it's showing up for are long and obscure but I dont care because I'm taking it one day at a time.
Come back soon for more news on how to make money blogging for beginners.
UPDATE: If you google America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 I'm on page 8 - that's the top 80 sites for that keyword out of over 252,000. If you google it with quotes around it I'm on page 4, and I have a goarticles article in the number 11 spot. I know that the search keyword is really long, I figure that the new season of the show is starting in a few months. It's a popular show and a lot of people are waiting for it. The close it gets, the more traffic it gets. So I'm getting a head start.
Why am I telling you this? For two reasons. First off, I'm bragging. It's silly, but I'm proud that I was able to do this. Second of all (and of more interst to you) I want to show you that if you're persistent you will be able to do this.
Thanks for reasing make money online for beginners.

Someone Used a Search Enginge And Found My Blog!
I have to run, so I won't be able to talk about this in detail. But today someone did a search for "ANTM season 12 january" and my blog was on the first page of google! Woohoo!
I don't know what my blog has to do with January, nor do I care. That's the first person who has found my blog using google's search engine, and I'm psyched. 1st page!
I'll write more on this later, and on a few other things.
Thanks for reading How to Make Money Online for Beginners.
Well I wanted to come back and explain and elaborate on a few things. Since my last post, I haven't really done anything new to my blog. The exciting news (there's a lot of exciting news) is that everyday since I created my blog it has been getting more and more traffic and more and more unique users.
Here's the stats:
Tuesday it had 8 unique users
Wednesday it had 13
Thursday it had 26
Friday it had 34
and today (Saturday) it's had 51 so far. This is good news! Today isn't even over yet!
I just googled "americas next top model obsessed" which is the name of my blog, as well as the name of a new show on the oxygen network, and my blog is in the number 10 spot on the first page of google. Sorry to gloat, I'm just excited. Plus this should prove to you that if you are willing to put in some time and effort from the getgo, things should pick up pretty quickly.
Here are the keywords I want to rank well on:
America's Next Top Model
America's Next Top Model Cycle 12
ANTM
Tyra Banks
If you google "ANTM cycle 12 blog" I am also on googles first page for that keyword. So I'm getting there, slowly but surely. And this gives me hope and motivates me to keep going.
While I have your attention I want to share a few tips.
This one is really good: When you're creating a Niche blog, don't be afraid to get specific. Niche blogs are often time based. You'll have a ton of traffic when your niche is really hot and then it will slow down when it cools off. If you make a blog about fashion in general, it's going to be really difficult to compete with other websites/blogs about fashion. A lot of people dedicate their time to serious blogs about fashion, while you are making a blog really just to make money. So it will be more difficult for you to rank high, beause you'll be competing with the best of the best.
But if you were to, say, make a blog about boat shoes (those are really in style right now) you would be competing with less people and you would make it to the top quicker.
To add on to this tip, I have another tip. Let's say you decide to make a blog about boat shoes. You need to do some research and pretend you are the person who is searching google for boat shoes. What would you search? There are 2 main brands of boat shoes. There are Sperry Top Siders and Sebago Docksides. People are very likely to be searching by brand name rather than the key word boat shoes.
Another example - let's say it's 2006 and the move The Pursuit of Happiness with Will Smith is about to come out. This is a big movie, it's a biopic and your intuition tells you that a lot of people are going to see this movie. So you make a blog about it because when people see a movie based on a real story, a lot of them are going to come home and find out a little bit more. What better place to do that than online. So what are you going to call your blog? The Pursuit of Happiness? Picture this, you go and see the movie. This movie is a true story about a man called Christopher Gardner. You like the movie, you return home, you want to find out more. What are you going to search? You're going to search Christopher Gardner. So that should be where you focus.
Here's a program that I just signed up for. It does cost money but it's cheap and worth it. The thing I haven't been able to properly do for my new blog is get meaningful one way backlinks. This is a very important step to getting search engine traffic. I was turned on to a program called "connectcontent" which is basically a site you pay $12 a month for or $120 a year, and you log on and give away backlinks and other people give you backlinks. The way it works is as follows:
You become a member of the site. The only rule is you have to give away the same amount or more backlinks as you get (being in the positive). You post your anhor keyword, URL, and title. Viola! It's a good site run by a good man and if you are having trouble getting backlinks I urge you to join. The more people who join the site, the better it is for everyone, and programs like these are often very pricey.
Well, that's all for now.

Step One - Make Money Make a Blog
So today, day one of making money online, I will explain what I spent the last 2 days doing to get started.
First I made a blog, which is easy to do. Go to blogger.com and follow their simple instructions.
The kind of blogs I will be making are niche blogs, which are basically blogs that have a "niche", or a distinctive topic that has keywords. These blogs often grab onto a topic that is really hot at the moment, and then it kind of cools off. Pick a topic that you think is hot right now.
Here's what I did. When I think hot, I think celebrities, movies, TV, fashion. So I remembered reading a month ago about a new America's Next Top Model program on Oxygen. I also remembered that Tyra Banks has a new show, and that a new season of America's Next Top Model is about to air. So I decided to go with that. It's easy to write about, and has easy keywords like "model" "tyra banks" "photos" "celebrity" and when your niche has good keywords it means that advertisers are going to have ads to put up, and this is how you make money.
Let's rewind for a minute. ADSENSE. This is what we are building our blogs around. Google adsense. It is a program run by google which places ads on your blog or website. Everytime an add is clicked, you make money. Google uses keywords it find on your website or blog and that's how it knows which adsense ads to put on your blog.
Okay, now let's pik up where we left off. You just chose a niche. Mine is America's Next Top Model. Yours is something else. You are making a blog, you go to blogger.com and you follow their instructions. You MUST use your keywords in the url address AND in the title of your blog AND in the description. Let's pretend your name is Gary and your blog is about food. If your URL is "garysfavoritethings.blogspot.com" and your title is "Gary's Favorite Things", google won't know what your blog is about and will put public service announcements on your blog instead of ads, and you won't make any money that way. For detailed instructions on how to set up a blog, go to Make Money For Beginners. This is a very useful site I'm using. My only problem is the guy, Grizzly, who writes this blog is alreday making money. So his advice (which is extremely valuable) sometimes doesn't explain the process. But it is an excellent resource nonetheless.
Back to the point though, so now you have your blog set up. So start writing articles. And remember to use your keyword A LOT. But not too much because then google will get mad and not index your site.
Index your site? What does that mean?
Basically, this is what you want: You have a niche site with a bunch of unique articles (articles that you wrote and didn't copy and paste) and you have ads on the site and people click on them and you get paid. But how do you get people to click on your ads. You need traffic!
You need to get your site indexed by google. Once it is indexed then when people search for the keywords that you use, your site will come up and they will click on it and so on. But it's not that simple. Getting your site indexed is a good start, but for any given keyword there are usually thousands of sites. So you need to beat those sites by getting a better page rank then all of them. And I will explain how to get a page rank later (when I do it).
Right now I'm going to tell you how to get your site indexed, because my site is already indexed. The way I did it was I went to Yahoo! Answers and I found as many questions as possible that had to do with my niche and I answered them and included a link to my blog. My blog was indexed overnight. I also submitted my article to a few article submission sites such as goarticles.com. When you submit articles to article search engines, reword your article without changing the keywords. And make a few of the keywords in your article a link to your blog. That will provide a backlink (which I will explain later but it's the most important thing).
I'll talk a little more about adsense and then that's it for the day. So I made my blog and then I made a mistake by putting adsense on it right away. You want google to index you, and for them to index you you will want them to take you seriously. If they see adsense on a brand new blog with almost no content and little traffic, they will know you set up a blog just to make money and that is a no-no. It wil be harder to get indexed and to get a decent page rank. So do not put adsense on yet. (Do it when you have traffic coming from search engines which won't be for a little while).
But since I made the mistake of putting adsense on right away, I may as well share somethings I have learned.
The title of my blog was "America's Next Top Model Cycle 12" And I talked about cylce 12 a lot. I also talked about models a lot and tyra banks. I had a few ads on my blog about modeling, one or 2 about Tyra, and the bulk of them were about Cycling! Camping! Bicycles! Fitness!
WHAT????
Oh, big mistake. I used the word cycle all over my blog. I have since removed a lot of my uses of cycle, and I have removed adsense from my blog until I start to get some traffic. Right now I average between 25-30 unique vistors to my blog a day. That is not a lot. Once I start to see numebrs around 300 I will consider adding adsense again. How am I going to get 300? I don't know yet. But as soon as I find out I will tell you.
But the point of me telling you my brief encounter with adsense was to warn you to be careful about which keywords you choose. There is special keyword software, I'm not using it as most of it is expensive. Once I start to make money I will start to invest money.
A few other quick tips before I leave - make your blog ugly and boring! You want people to leave your site. There are 2 ways for them to leave, by clicking ads or by clicking back. The less people want to stay on your site the more they will click away.
Also, in order to know how many visitors you have on your site, you need to use a program called statcounter which you can find at www.statcounter.com. It's free and simple to use and set up, they explain it to you.
Well I'll post again soon. Until then, thank for visiting me and learning how to make money online with me.

Make Money Online for Beginners
Welcome to Make Money Online for Beginners.
You may be wondering how this make money blog is different than any of the other tens of thousands of make money blogs out there.
Well it is, and I will tell you why. First of all, I'm not going to try to sell you anything on this blog. I work for myself, and I don't want to sell you any ebooks or special programs to make money online (at least not yet). And I'm not going to promise you that you can get rich quick.
The big difference, however, between this make money blog and other make money blogs is that so far I have made only 20 cents working online.
So now you may ask: why do I want to read a blog about making money online written by someone who obviously doesn't know how to make money online.
Good question.
Here's the answer. I have been searching for some free instruction on how to get started making money online by blogging, and so far I have come across a small handful of websites and blogs written by people who have been very successful in this field. They have been helpful and informative but there's been this problem:
They tell you how they became successful and how you can do it. But they have already gone through this process and to a certain extent they can't relate to what you (and I) are going through.
So here's what I'm proposing: we go through this process together. We learn how to make money online from scratch. I will update often about what I'm doing, what I'm trying out, what is working and what is not. You will post comments or send me emails of what you are trying out and if it's working or not working. This blog won't only tell you the ways in which to make money online. It will do better. It will tell you the process.
I'm determined to make money off of blogging and I know it's possible. So here is an invitation to you, to jump in my boat with me and look the storm in the eye.
Today, January 16 2009 is the first day of the rest of our lives. We will learn how to do this, and we will succeed.
Thanks for joining me to make money online. Welcome aboard.
